Scouting in Support of America
Thousands of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and their families have
participated and continue to participate in various activities to demonstrate
their patriotism and show support of out country. These activities
include:
- Tying red, white, and blue ribbons on trees
- Helping Hands of heroes - assisting military families with
everyday needs
- E-mailing pictures of pinewood derby races to U.S. soldiers
- Carrying the colors at rallies and various events
- Attending rallies to show support for troops
- "Wall of Heroes" for the Scouting soldiers
- List of servicemen and women on Web sites submitted by volunteers
and staff
- Prayer services
- Distributing flags and putting flags up at homes in neighborhoods
- Trying yellow ribbons on trees
- Communicating with soldiers via ham radio
- Folding "pocket flags" to be distributed to soldiers
- Participating in training exercises with the military
- Supermarket displays of hometown soldiers
- Web site tips for parents to deal with children's concerns
- Offering scholarships for summer programs for those whose parent or
guardian is currently on active military duty
